Frequently Asked Questions
What Should I Wear To Coachella?
For those of you who don’t know, Coachella is one of the biggest and most popular music and arts festivals. It has taken place in California at the Colorado Desert since 1999.
It’s a big deal and they attract tons of celebrities and superstars. A-list celebrities like Kendall Jenner, Vanessa Hudgens, Justin Bieber, and so many more have come to perform or just hang out!
However, Coachella also has some of the best and unique festival fashion too. You’ll see tons of people wearing elaborate bohemian style clothing and accessories.
Keep in mind that Coachella takes place in the desert, so it’s blistering hot and sand can easily get into shoes. Therefore, be prepared to show your skin, wear closed-toe shoes like boots, and don those sunglasses!
There aren’t any rules to what you should be wearing, but bohemian seems to be the major style aesthetic at the festival.
Here’s a couple of style tips to kind in mind when coordinating an outfit for Coachella:
- Wear light and flowy tops that are breathable. You’ll be dancing and moving all day in the heat, so you want to stay cool.
- You can never go wrong with some shorts, so pack a few versatile options! I would recommend one pair of jean shorts and a couple of fun lightweight shorts.
- Skirts are great at Coachella too. Bring a maxi or mini skirt and pair it with some boots for a bohemian vibe.
- Dresses or jumpsuits are cute and easy all-in-one outfits too! A flowy summer dress paired with some boots and a fedora will make an effortless and chic outfit.
- Bring a lightweight, long-sleeved shirt that you can easily layer on top of your outfit. This is a good way to protect your skin from the sun. You can also bring a long scarf of pashmina.
- Wear boots! They’re stylish and chic. Most importantly they are easier to walk in, protect your feet, and keep sand from entering your toes. The ground is grassy and flat, so avoid wedges and heels.
What Kind Of Clothes Do You Wear On Festival Days?
Unless the festival you’re going to has a dress code, you’re really free to wear whatever you want. It’s more important to wear something that is comfortable for you to dance in and stay cool.
Also, take note of the weather and dress appropriately for it. Festivals tend to be outdoor on hot days, so breathable tops and dresses are a great option. Also, bring a long sleeve shirt to layer with and protect your skin from the sun.
Most festivals won’t enforce a strict dress code, but there’s some unspoken rules on what to avoid. Knowing what to avoid will help you figure out the best festival outfit ideas.
Here’s what you should avoid at a festival:
- Avoid wearing heavy fabrics, like leather, suede, or fur. They’re not breathable for hot and sweaty events. Plus, it would not dry very fast if you spilled a drink on the fabric.
- Don’t wear heels. You’re going to be dancing all day, so don’t let painful feet ruin your fun!
- Skip the flip-flops, sandals, and other open-toed shoes. They’re comfy, but they leave your feet open to the dust, dirt, and grime. Your feet will feel filthy at the end. Plus, people might step on your feet!
What Shoes Should I Wear To A Festival?
The shoes you wear to a festival need to be comfy and versatile. You’ll be moving around and dancing most of the time, so you want to avoid blisters!
That’s why I highly recommend avoiding heels or open-toed shoes altogether! Heels will get uncomfortable and you want to avoid any painful blisters while you’re trying to have a good time.
Also, open-toed shoes leave your feet open to dirt, grime, and other people stepping on your toes. Don’t wear them if you want to protect your feet.
Moreover, don’t wear your most expensive shoes if you don’t want to get them dirty.
Here’s my favorite type of shoes to wear to a festival:
- Boots – Ankle boots are some of my favorite boots to wear to festivals. They fully cover your feet so they are protected, comfortable to walk and dance in, and look great with pretty much anything you wear!
- Sneakers – These are an obvious choice for ultimate comfort! Sneakers also look great with just about anything you wear.
- Platforms – I mentioned that heels are a no-no, but platforms are a viable option. They give you height and they’re flat so it’s comfy to walk in.
Can I Wear Leggings To A Festival?
Leggings are super versatile and can even be worn to a festival. Yes, you heard me right!
However, the key to wearing leggings to the festival is to play with colors and prints. You don’t want to look like you just got out of a gym session. That’s why you want to avoid your basic black or navy leggings.
Instead go for leggings with trendy patterns like snake print and marble. Don’t be afraid to venture out to popular colors, such as dusky rose.
Plus, festivals like Coachella actually include activities like meditation and yoga on their schedule, so don’t be afraid to incorporate leggings into your outfits!
How Do You Style Jeans For A Festival?
Jeans are an easy go-to and acceptable at pretty much any festival. If you’re not sure what to wear, a nice pair of jean shorts for outdoor festivals is the way to go!
Jeans are so easy to match an outfit with too. Trust me, almost any casual top will look great with them.
Here’s a few of my favorite tops wear with jeans for a festival:
- Bodysuits – Bodysuits are body-hugging and so sexy. There are plenty of fun styles out there that include fun cut-outs and strappy details. Plus, they stay tucked in all day so you don’t have to worry about weird bulging fabric.
- Crop tops – These are so fun to wear, especially with high-waisted or low-waisted jean shorts. Pair them with low-waisted jean shorts to show more skin and add a body-chain for a pop of fun detail.
- Off-shoulder tops – The off-shoulder top is feminine and pairs well with jean shorts. It’s something about showing your shoulders that make it look so flirty and fun. Make sure to put on some sunscreen to protect your skin.
What To Wear To A Festival If It’s Cold?
If you’re going to a festival when it’s cold out, layers are your best friend! Wear layers that can either be concealed or tied around your waist.
A good way to do this is to wear thin or lightweight thermals that can be hidden under what you’re wearing.
For instance, if you’re going to wear a long sleeve top, look for a thermal that is also long-sleeved and will not stick out from underneath.
Another option is to layer a flannel or shirt on top that you can easily take off and tie around your waist when it gets hot.
Moreover, wear pants to protect your legs and keep them warm. As much as it might be tempting to wear shorts or mini skirts, you’re not going to enjoy the festival if you’re constantly shivering from the cold!
Festivals are a great way to get creative and have fun with your outfits.
